Ms. Zio's Site
Welcome to my classroom website! My students call me Ms. Zio. I have been teaching in Chicago Public Schools since 1997. I taught 1st grade for 5 years, kindergarten for 1 year and have worked in preschool classrooms since 2002. I have a B.A. in Early Childhood from National Louis University, a M.Ed. in Child Development from Erikson Institute and am completing a 2nd masters in Educational Leadership at the American College of Education. I received my National Board Teacher Certification in 2010. I was born and raised in Chicago, near Andersonville. My family is from Guatemala in Central America. I have studied in Istanbul, Turkey and travel extensively through southern Africa each summer with my non-for-profit, SwaziKids International (www.swazikidsinternational.org). I am vegan and a kid at heart. Each time I step into my classroom I walk into a rainbow and when I step out I always leave with a pot of gold. Preschool children make my heart smile! "Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work." - William Arthur Ward

My Non-For-Profit: SwaziKids International
SwaziKids International was created at Nettelhorst in 2007. Since then my students have collected spare change to help fund the education of children in Swaziland, Africa. They have also donated school supplies and toys which I hand deliver to Swaziland each summer. To learn more about and support our efforts, please visit our site. Many thanks! :)
