Feb 21, 2012 Hope everyone enjoyed the extended weekend! Reminder, the Character Counts celebration will be on Friday--selected students received invitations for families. Our celebration will take place in the classroom. Please read the following announcments, as mention in Ms. Wulbert's "Friday News" from the Nettelhorst website: ***Worlds of Wisdom and Wonder Programs as advertised in Chicago Parent Magazine Unique and challenging programs for bright and talented youth Pre-K – 8 Chicago/Lakeview program is at Nettelhorst School Dates: February 26, March 4, 11, 18, and March 25 (Sunday afternoon programs) ***Gala Information (Auction Items Needed) Updated The Nettelhorst Community Group is seeking items for the annual online auction—one of the anchor events of the Annual Gala. Please ask friends, family, and stores and boutiques in your area if they would consider donating an item for our online auction that will help support Nettelhorst. All donations are tax-deductible, and no item is too small. The names of the donors and a description of the items donated will appear online at www.biddingforgood.com, which is a website viewed by thousands. Consider requesting donations of vacations, gift certificates for dining and entertainment, jewelry, sports memorabilia, and unique offerings. As Chicago Public Schools and the State of Illinois continue to experience budgetary issues, it is up to us to raise the necessary funds to keep class sizes small and to guarantee a teaching position for next year. Please help by asking for donation items for this year’s online auction. Last year’s auction included one-of-a-kind and exotic items—let’s work to top it this year! Online auction forms are available online at www.nettelhorst.org – go to Quick Links section on the left of the page and select the Spring ’12 Gala/Auction link. Bring your completed form and the item or gift certificate to the school office. Thank you for your support in maintaining our teaching positions. February 24: All online auction donations due March 24: Annual Gala – more information on the Annual Gala is forthcoming Community members can submit them to the main office or contact Sue Bowman at sue@urbaintailz.com or Shreya Gupta at sg0906@yahoo.com if they have any questions, comments or concerns. The link below is to the Nettelhorst Website Tab: Spring '12 Gala'/Auction. It has the forms and letters that parents may need for the items. http://www.nettelhorst.org/getinvolved.cfm?subpage=579806 Have a great week! _____________________________________________________

Mid-Week Announcements! 1) With our new Science unit, Chemical Testing, preparation of materials and clean-up time each day has absorbed valuable minutes. As a result, starting next week we will have extended Science Labs twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a change in our day-to-day schedule as passed out at Open House. As a result, it is VERY important to support attendance and make sure to arrange doctor's appointments, etc for other days. This will allow for extended reading and writing workshop time. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns. 2) In regards to the Levers and Pulleys test, if your child received a 69% or lower they can correct any missed questions to earn 50% credit back. Then the two test scores will be averaged for a new grade. It's important for students to rethink their original work to further support their understanding. 3) For Friday's Birthday celebration, Jazmin's mom has offered to buy pizza for the class!
