Join the Bubbles Academy staff at Nettelhorst for this imaginative and exciting one hour yoga class focusing on stretching the arms, legs, bodies and minds! Each week we will explore yoga and movement through games, songs, dances and imaginative adventures. At the end of each class we will have a relaxation period, teaching our young yogi and yogini's how to calm their minds and their bodies. $ 125

Wacky Wonderland- Emerald City Drama 3:15-4:15 PK-K

Adventures of Alice - Jump down the rabbit hole and into the work of Alice in Wonderland where anything can happen! Students will read the famous Lewis Carroll story and create their own Wacky Wonderland adventure. Theatre games, movement and music will comprise this imaginative story building class. The class will present their original wonderland adventure in a final show. $ 100

Rock Band 101 3:15-4:15 K-1st grade

It is time for a rock and roll adventure! Pick the songs you want to play, learn them, and play them in no time. Tutorials for each song are posted on YouTube for easy at-home learning. All skill levels welcome. All players welcome: guitarists, bass players, pianists, drummers and singers. Let's Rock! Nathan Dillon is a working professional guitarist. Chess Wizards 3:15-4:15 K-8th grade

In this chess class, all young players will develop quickly regardless of their ability, with lessons that are fun, entertaining and mentally stimulating. The Mission of Chess Wizards is to improve our student’s abilities to focus and think ahead in various aspects of life. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts such as the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students grouped by skill & grade level. $115

Path2Math- Math Camp! 3:15-4:15 1st & 2nd grade

LA Boxing Kids Workout 3:15-4:30 1st-3rd grade

The LA Boxing Kids' Workout is an action-packed hour that stresses the importance of self-respect, discipline, community and caring while engaging your child in exciting games and drills. Everybody wins when your child learns fun exercises that increase balance, coordination and overall physical condition. Get your child started early on the path to life-long health and fitness by giving them the tools and understanding that are applicable to athletes in any sport. This class also includes an introduction to the fundamentals of boxing, kickboxing and grappling. This is an offsite class at LA Boxings facility, students will be escorted to & from this class- no student pick-ups are permitted at the offsite. Additional waivers required prior to participation. $100 (gloves recommended & may be purchased at LA Boxing for $25)

Peter Pan! Emerald City Drama 3:15-4:15 1st-5th grade

Students in this class will get the unique opportunity to work on songs and scenes from Emerald City’s Peter Pan musical production that is currently running! Acting, singing and dancing will comprise this class as students play different parts from the story or create adventures of their own. The class will culminate in a final show where they will showcase songs and scenes! $100

Artreach provides dynamically expressive 2 and 3D art making experiences
with quality teachers who love to make art! Puppets of all sizes, theater boxes, jewelry, dinner ware, clothing and more are just some of the projects we have lined up for the spring season's after-school enrichment classes. Come have fun, make stuff and learn about new and exciting ways to build pieces of art you can wear, put in a frame and maybe even eat from! Students will be able to explore the idea of space and texture while experimenting with various mediums most professional artists use themselves while discovering new methods of creating using everyday materials and recyclables! Movie Making 3:15-4:15 3rd-5th grade

Upper Grade Spanish 3:00-4:00 4th-8th Grade

In this class, 4th and 8th grade students will learn the basics of the Spanish language. Each week will cover a specific subject and put it to practice through age appropriate games, songs, dancing, acting, math, and beginning reading. We will also learn some of the multiple cultures and traditions of the Latin-American countries. $ 65

Jane’s Place Open Gym Fun Time 10:45-12:15 20 months-4 years
Toddlers play games, crawl through tunnels, bounce balls, and have a great time. Parents & Caregivers: come in from the cold and make new friends. Mini Mandarin Chinese 3:15-4:15 PK-K Tuesdays & Thursdays

Little Linguists Academy's classes are taught by native Chinese speakers who have many years of experience teaching children. The first part of each class will be conducted 100% in Chinese. During the last 10 minutes, simple Chinese characters are taught and explained in English. Children will learn in a fun, interactive and enjoyable environment through song, arts and crafts, games and body movement. This course is held on Tuesdays and Fridays and is 20 classes total. $280

Under The Influence (of Art) 2:15-3:00 K-3rd grade

Taught by Rachel Switall, this class will explore different masters in the arts while producing independent artwork. How do other artists influence our work? Focusing on artists from Monet to Warhol, students will learn different techniques, while at the same time working on their own style. Throughout the session, they will learn how other artists can influence and inspire their own work. At the end of the program, each child will receive a picture in Rachel's style based by his or her own drawings (see www.raspberrykidz.com to view her prints. $ 115 materials included

Growing Strong – Boot Camp 3:15-4:15 K-3rd grade

Growing Strong Training’s goal is to build a foundation of movement skills that promote a lifetime of exercise adherence, reduce the risk of sport injuries, and improve fitness levels for students in a fun environment. Windsprints, drills, games and lots of high energy burning moves! Sessions focus on improving coordination, basic strength, and multi-directional movement. Growing Strong coaches are Certified Youth Fitness Specialists with the International Youth Conditioning Association. Students will learn safe work-out practices on equipment under the close supervision of coaches. $ 105

Join us for some fun in the dirt! The Nettelhorst Garden Club has some great plans for this spring. We will be exploring gardening with containers, earth boxes and creating a native species/butterfly oasis. This group will be led by C3 leader/parent Tracy Wozniak and Master Gardener in training/parent Nancy O'Brien. $25

Blackhawks Floor Hockey 3:15-4:15 1st-8th Grade

Attend the Blackhawks Floor Hockey Clinic on March 19th and check out the action! Floor hockey is an action-packed sport that offers participants a fantastic opportunity to get some exercise in a fun and competitive environment. Prior knowledge in French not required! For children who like to act, play and express themselves on stage. Ideal for future actors and actresses who would like to win over Europe in French! All classes are 1 ½ hours in duration and taught by native French speakers who are experienced as Français Langue Seconde (French Second Language) teachers and actors. A play, entirely in French will be produced and presented on the final day of class! $135

Drum Kit Percussion 3:15-4:15 3rd-8th grade

Students will enjoy learning about the basics of playing the drums and develop the necessary skills to play the drum-set. This fun group setting gives students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rhythm and technique while surrounded by their peers. Counting games, clapping exercises and singing are some of the tools we will use to emphasize good learning skills while maintaining a fun atmosphere, and will prepare them to continue on in private instruction if desired. Storytime with a twist! Students will enjoy a read-aloud story and book discussion with Ms. Block-Sheahan followed by a fun craft relating to each week’s story. In this before-school class, 1st to 5th grade students will expand their knowledge of the Spanish language in verbal and written form. We will have games, songs, book readings, art projects, dancing and acting. We will also learn some of the multiple cultures and traditions of the Latin-American countries. Recommended for students who have already progressed through beginner Spanish or have prior Spanish knowledge. This class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is 23 classes total. Enrollment in this class requires instructor’s approval.

Young Rembrandts Cartooning 3:15-4:15 2nd-4th grade
Minimum number of students: 8 Maximum number of students: 16
Young Rembrandts, a fine arts enrichment program, teaches students to draw using markers, sharpies, colored pencils, and crayons to produce assorted art projects. The spring session will include different cartooning & colorization techniques. Participants will develop fine motor skills; improve concentration, creativity, and confidence while learning a variety of drawing styles. Students create a new project each week in a fun, age-appropriate setting. Smock or old shirt recommended $ 110 includes materials

Growing Strong Training 3:15-4:15 2nd -5th grade

Growing Strong Training’s goal is to build a foundation of movement skills that promote a lifetime of exercise adherence, reduce the risk of sport injuries, and improve fitness levels for students in a fun environment. These sessions will take place in the new Blackhawks fitness room and introduce equipment designed to improve coordination, basic strength, and multi-directional movement. Growing Strong coaches are Certified Youth Fitness Specialists with the International Youth Conditioning Association. Students will learn safe work-out practices on equipment under the close supervision of coaches. $ 105

Bucket Drumming 3:15-4:00 3rd-5th grade

NEW!! Welcome to the world of bucket drumming, a 20th and 21st century urban manifestation of an age old phenomenon! Street musicians have been around for years and percussionists have always selected materials and made instruments from what was available in their own immediate surroundings. And one thing that we have in abundance in this age of petroleum products is plastic containers. Nettelhorst parent and musician Carol Hermanson will instruct students in drum corp/coordinated style percussion using 5 gallon buckets and assorted found objects. $ 70

Just Us Girls 3:15-4:15 4th-6th grade

NEW!! For girls only, this class uses dance as a way to build self-confidence and community within the girls of Nettelhorst. This class incorporates creative dance as its focus and also includes discussion, drawing and journaling. We will have fun dancing and creating dances, and also take time to discuss some of the issues affecting girls of this age including bullying, self image, and media portrayal of femininity. This class creates a safe space for girls to express themselves both physically and verbally, girls will learn to be mentors and build new friendships. $ 90

Multimedia Beatmakers Studio 3:15-4:15 4th-8th grade

Music and Sound Design aren’t just for Film and Television. Everywhere you turn you will find great music created by aspiring DJ’s and Musicians alike. Multimedia Beatmaker Studio will show you just how easy it is to start putting cool sounds to everything from your family’s home videos to a professional Hollywood Movie trailer.The tools you need to get started you might already have in your home. Students will be introduced to a variety of classic electronic instruments and learn how they are used to crate the many sounds heard in music today. Learn and develop the skills required to record using computer technology. NEW!! Come Explore the world with Global Explorers Kids! During the spring session we’ll be learning about, looking at, and making masks from around the world. Children will use a variety of materials and techniques while creating art inspired by masks from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Students will examine masks from around the world; discuss similarities and differences; discuss uses of masks. African Dogon Dama masks,Tibetan Opera masks, Caribbean Jonkonnu masks,Mexican Sun masks. Discuss traditional face painting and how it relates to masks. ALL NEW!! Look out 0071/2 — the Mad Science spy academy is in session! Children will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible messages! Young investigators will step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Ballet/Tap Combo 4:30-5:30 1st-3rd grade 8 weeks

NEW! Both boys & girls are welcome and will benefit from this program. Class focuses on ballet basics; creative movement and musical rhythm with the added bonus of a 20 minute tap extension. Instructors use imaginative imagery to teach fundamental tap steps in a fun way while reinforcing rhythm, counting and strength. Leotard & tights (for girls), plain t-shirt & shorts or sweatpant (for boys) and ballet shoes are required. Tap shoes are not necessary, hard-soled dress shoes work fine. Mark Miller's Wide World of Sports....a perfect way for students to learn the basics of a variety of activities. Robot City Workshop 3:15-4:15 3rd-8th grade

NEW!! Students will learn skills that can be applied towards mechanics and electronics while they work with their hands and develop potential new hobbies or even careers. Class includes instruction in basic tool use, and manual comprehension. We are excited to offer this challenging new robotic project for the spring session! Students will get to build and program a 5-jointed robotic arm over the course of the 10 week program. Robot City Workshop is has been teaching introductory robotics to kids since opening in 2008 and offers a competent staff with backgrounds in commercial robotics and performance arts, as we believe that the educational process should be as entertaining as it is useful. $ 335 includes kits, tools, and materials

LA Boxing Youth Program 3:15-4:30 4th-8th grade

The LA Boxing Youth Program teaches the fundamental techniques of boxing, kickboxing and grappling in a safe way that emphasizes sportsmanship, honor, personal integrity and self-respect. These character-building classes boost confidence and self-awareness. Your child will learn leadership skills as well as the importance of being a team-player. Rock Band 101 3:15-4:15 6th-8th grade

NEW!! It is time for a rock and roll adventure! Pick the songs you want to play, learn them, and play them in no time. Tutorials for each song are posted on YouTube for easy at-home learning. Naturally Healthy: Shortcuts to a Healthy Lifestyle! Will be led by Tilney Sheldon, Certified Life Coach and Advanced Hypnotherapist on Wednesdays right after drop-off at 9:05 a.m. Come dressed to move to this fun, highly informative, and on-going workshop that will teach you near effortless ways to fit exercise, healthy eating, and conscience relaxation into your busy life. Each session will include a mini-lecture, simple high energy exercise, and a guided meditation/relaxation. Beginning in the spring session, Ms.Kupec will help 3rd-8th grade students sort and organize their memorabilia and show them how to organize a scrapbook of their year(s) at Nettelhorst! Individual Lessons- John Smillie Percussion 3:15-5:15 1st-8th grade
30 minute lessons available by appointment

These one on one lessons are designed for students who may be above the beginner level, or who simply prefer the private instruction to the group lessons. Students can expect to learn proper technique and fundamentals through use of both the snare drum and drum set. We will learn and play snare drum solos and exercises, the basic rudiments of drumming, and drum set rhythms from popular songs of their choosing. John Smillie is a local rock/indie/jazz drummer who currently plays with bands Information Superhighway and Eli Jones.
