The Local School Council at Nettelhorst
The Local School Council (LSC) is made up of six parent representatives, two community representatives elected by the parents and community residents. The school staff elects two teachers to be on the council. Additionally, the principal holds a voting seat on the council as well.
The LSC plays an important role in:
- Principal Evaluation and Selection
The LSC appoints a principal to a four-year contract and rehires or replaces a principal at the end of that contract. They supervise and evaluate the appointed principal during the contract period.
- School Improvement Planning
The LSC helps to develop and approve a School Improvement Plan or a SIPPA. These plans assure the achievement of student learning standards that are set by the state.
- School Based Budget
The LSC helps to develop and approve a school based budget with control over flexible funds provided by the state.
- Subcommittees
The LSC forms subcommittees to address issues that arise in the school.
You do not need to be elected to join a subcommittee or attend meetings.
