What parents are saying about Nettelhorst

We live in Ravenswood. Last year, Jack went to the JCC. This year, he's in the tuition-based pre-K program at Nettelhorst. We wanted a solid educational option in the city that didn't mean private school. Nettelhorst has the best program around.

Jack just started Nettelhorst. We couldn't be happier. We moved from another school because Jack has a speech delay and was having a little trouble socializing. In one month, we have seen an incredible change in his speech, and this place has generated an incredibly happy little boy.
.Since coming here, we have decided that we are going to raise our children in the city for sure.
            - Heather Moran, Jack 4

We moved here from a small town, and I had a lot of misgivings about moving to a big city, but I put my son in this school because I fell in love with it. I fell in love with his teachers, the principal, and the whole program. This school functions as a family. We have gotten so close with the parents and children here and wouldn't want to go anywhere else!

Our daughter was actually at a Montessori school when we transferred her here She's had a terrific year in the preschool program. We feel that our relationship with the other parents has blossomed throughout the year, which is something that we think is important for our daughter's education, not only now, but also in the future. We are just thrilled to be a part of this exceptional school.

Olivia has been at Nettelhorst for a year already. We came from outside the neighborhood and we were drawn here specifically by the tuition-based preschool. We had heard absolutely wonderful things about the teachers and it's been a wonderful year for us. We weren't even looking at Nettelhorst as a school. We were applying to various magnet schools and looking at private schools, but the preschool program really got us in the door.
Our daughter is going to be in kindergarten next year, and my other daughter, Kate, will be starting preschool next year when she turns three. The preschool is a really diverse group of kids, ethnically and economically, which helps makes this such a vibrant school.

A neighbor of ours was sending her daughter there [Nettelhorst] ..They loved it, so we came, and now, we love it too. We love the parent involvement. We are so happy to be part of this wonderful community. There is a real warmth for the kids here.. David loves it.
            - Cynthia de la Feunte, David 4

Nettelhorst is an extraordinary place. My wife and I had such misgivings about CPS. We thought that we would have to go to a private school or move to the suburbs. We can't believe we have such a great school that will work for us for the next eight years!

We've come to really love the Nettelhorst preschool program, the school and the neighborhood. I'm in radio and we've tended to move around a lot over the years. We've seen a number of schools and found that Nettelhorst is one of the finest schools we've ever been to. The preschool program is absolutely excellent. Anya and Luiza love their teachers. It is so valuable that our kids get a great education early on.
            - Damen Vickers, Anya 5 and Luiza 3

My son and daughter both go to school here and the families here have poured their hearts and souls into this school. We love Nettelhorst. As all the extraordinary cultural partners contribute to the regular curriculum day, the kids are exposed to so much art, drama, sports, dance and music. The creativity here is great, and as an artist, I probably care more than most parents do, or even should. The principal, Dr. Kurland, is amazing. The place is what school is supposed to be like, only better. All the hype about this place sounds totally ridiculous until you see it in person.
            - Jacqueline Edelberg, Maya

We love the Nettelhorst program because of the wonderful teachers, the individual attention, and the great teacher/student ratio. The teachers here have so many great ideas about how to spark children's imagination with creative activities. It's a really special place.

Jackson has been in the preschool program this year and we absolutely love Nettelhorst. It is fabulous: the teachers are dedicated; the parents are incredible; and the Principal is awesome. We just get a friendly vibe every time we walk into this school (and I love the fact that we can walk to school!). Every project that comes out of Jackson's class is brilliant. I also really like the diversity in the classroom-that's why we chose public school in the first place. We are just so happy here. I feel like I found a pot of gold.
            - Sarah Brooks, Jackson 4

Phillip joined the preschool program only two months ago and he already loves it. Since we are German, I really appreciate that he is able to socialize and learn the language. I especially love the way the teachers impose a sense of order and discipline in a very playful way. I like the concept of a neighborhood school because it allows children to develop the friendships that they make at school. At this age, I think it is very important that all the children are from the neighborhood.

Luca came here last Fall, and his progress as a little person is remarkable. He has grown so much and we can the progress at home. He likes all his friends at Nettelhorst. His teacher is an amazing person. She helps us to understand him at home better and helps him to understand himself. He loves it here.
