The Nettelhorst School is home to a wide variety of beautiful and multi-cultural artwork on display prominently throughout the school. Featuring local Chicago artists and museum-qualty art installations, the halls of Nettelhorst create a uniquely stimulating and engaging environment for it's students.
WPA Murals
Nettelhorst is home to two beautifully restored WPA murals. One, by Rudolph Weisenborn, is considered to be the only comtemporary example in the WPA collection. It greets our children every day on the wall outside the main office.
The Solar Needle
Artist Terry Karpowicz donated an amazing sculpture to Nettelhorst and the entire community. It sits in the corner of of our play lot, on the corner of Broadway and Melrose. Through its materials, it shows how we start from basic, humble beginnings and, through hard work and education, rise to be gleaming and bright. It is also a teaching tool—a well-positioned hole casts a high-noon shadow on the play ground. Marking the shadow every day will, over the course of a year, make a figure eight—the sign of infinity.
