Admissions

Is Your Child Starting Kindergarten This Fall? Or Are You New to the Neighborhood?
If so, here are some tips to make registration easy.

Exciting. Overwhelming. Intimidating.

Getting your child registered for public school can be all of the above. Or it can be relatively smooth and simple. The trick is being prepared and knowing what's required in the way of documents and forms.

You do not have to wait until Fall. Parents, you can register your children now.

Click HERE to access the Chicago Public School Elementary registration checklist

You'll need to bring five pieces of information to the school your child will be attending:
  1. Proof of child's age
  2. Proof of current address
  3. Proof of a recent physical exam
  4. Proof of current immunizations
  5. Proof of dental exam, if applicable
That's it! Pretty simple.

If you're unsure of the school boundaries, check the map below or visit the CPS boundry site at schoollocator.cps.k12.il.us. Follow the directions. Click submit. This will bring up a window where you type in your home address and also indicate the type of school you're looking for, in this case, "elementary". Next, you can click on "Find Your Home School" (your neighborhood Chicago Public School) or "Find Schools in Your Vicinity". Whichever category you select, the next screen will pull up the relevant schools. Click on each school to see the boundary lines and make sure your child is within the boundary of the school you select.

What is you live outside of the school's boundries?  The CPS Open Enrollment Policy allows a student to apply to a school outside the neighborhood when space is available. The policy only applies to schools that have attendance boundaries and each school determines how many Open Enrollment students it can accept.  Expectation that an out of neighborhood child may be enrolled at Nettelhorst is low.  It is best to look for a place in Lakeview if Nettelhorst is your choice for a school.  For more information about CPS Open Enrollment click here

If there are any problems pulling up this information or if you have questions, please call the schhol office 773.534.5810.

Preschool

In addition to the above-mentioned requirements:
  • The Nettelhorst School accepts applications for the tuition-based preschool from September to the first day of Winter break. All applications must be made in person at the school.
  • Admissions priority is given to neighborhood four-year olds and then neighborhood three-year olds. This is followed by four-year olds who live out of the school's attendance boundary, and finally three-year-old children who live outside of the attendance boundary.
Please visit here for more information on the Pre-K options available at Nettelhorst.
