Is Your Child Starting Kindergarten This Fall? Or Are You New to the Neighborhood?
If so, here are some tips to make registration easy.

Exciting. Overwhelming. Intimidating.

Getting your child registered for public school can be all of the above. Or it can be relatively smooth and simple. The trick is being prepared and knowing what's required in the way of documents and forms.

Students in class Here are some tips to make registration easy for busy parents:

You do not have to wait until Fall. Parents, you can register your children now.
To do so, you'll need to bring five pieces of information to the school your child will be attending:

  1. your child's birth certificate
  2. your child's social security card
  3. proof of a recent physical exam and proof of current immunizations
  4. parent's ID
  5. proof of residency within the school's boundaries.

That's it! Pretty simple.

If you're unsure of the school boundaries, check the map below or visit the CPS boundry site at schoollocator.cps.k12.il.us. Follow the directions. Click submit. This will bring up a window where you type in your home address and also indicate the type of school you're looking for, in this case, "elementary". Next, you can click on "Find Your Home School" (your neighborhood Chicago Public School) or "Find Schools in Your Vicinity". Whichever category you select, the next screen will pull up the relevant schools. Click on each school to see the boundary lines and make sure your child is within the boundary of the school you select.

If there are any problems pulling up this information or if you have questions, call your area school office for help. For children who will be attending Nettelhorst, that number is 773.534.5810.

Preschool

In addition to the above-mentioned requirements:

  • The Nettelhorst School accepts applications for the tuition-based preschool from September to the first day of Winter break. All applications must be made in person at the school.
  • Admissions priority is given to neighborhood four-year olds and then neighborhood three-year olds. This is followed by four-year olds who live out of the school's attendance boundary, and finally three-year-old children who live outside of the attendance boundary.
  • Based on the applicant pool, the Nettelhorst School strives to create preschool classes balanced by age, gender, and racial diversity. It is our hope and intention that all our preschool families remain with us through eigth grade.
  • Please visit here for more information on the Pre-K options available at Nettelhorst.
